Liebster Award

Liebster Award

Liebster Award given to Ireland, MS and Me by HeHasMS.com

Last night I was nominated for a Liebster Award by Marcus of He Has MS on hehasms.com. Please take a look at his blog because you will be inspired, that is a fact! And yes… so chuffed once again for receiving an award myself!

Marcus is 35 and he is an inspiration to many of us who live lives ruled by multiple sclerosis. His story mirrors mine in many ways but where I am experiencing slow progression, Marcus went from bad to worse in a short period of time. Simply because of that I find him inspiring and he deserves all the support he can get. I am once again chuffed to receive a blog award and it means even more to me because Marcus chose me together with other inspirational people. I hope Marcus and his family will get some respite from his rapid progression and I hope he will keep on blogging. The world needs to know that multiple sclerosis is not like having a flu. MS is vindictive, awful and does not discriminate.

The Liebster award is given to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers.  But what is a Liebster?  The meaning: Liebster is German and means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.

Were you nominated or do you have someone in mind that you’d like to nominate? If so, here are the Liebster Rules:
1. List 11 facts about yourself.
2. Answer the 11 questions given to you.
3. Create 11 new questions for the bloggers you nominate for the award.
4. Choose 11 bloggers with 200 or less followers to nominate.
5. Go to each bloggers page and let them know about the award.
6. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.

11 facts about myself…
Ψ Turning 40 in July. And so not looking forward to it. Sure, I’ve no wrinkles yet to tell the world about my entering the dreaded 40s but where oh where did the previous 40 years go to? It all went so, so fast!

Ψ <- This little symbol (Ψ) is Psi, and is used as a symbol for psychology. I am not a psychologist (yet) but everything about the brain is so interesting to me, and I always want to know about behaviours that stand out. I’d love to study Abnormal Psychology one day, but first I will have to return to college to finish my degree. When that will be? Your guess is as good as mine!

Ψ I love ice cream. And coffee. If I have any vices, they are it!

Ψ Retired due to medical reasons in December 2009. On Christmas Day as a matter of fact. It would turn out to be the biggest gift I’d ever be able to give to myself because now I would have time to rest, relax and sleep as much as I needed to instead of having to take catnaps at work. It was not going backwards at all but it was progression mentally and physically.

Ψ As all bloggers, I am secretly a closet author. I would love to write books and have been asked/told by people I should put pen to paper about living in Ireland and with MS. So far I’ve not been looking at publishers simply because I want to use blogging as a learning tool. It not only helped me to see sense in my MS where there was none before, but it is also helping me find out which style of writing I like/love and what the pitfalls of writing are.

Ψ I read. A lot. Four to five books at the same time also. Right now I am getting through James Joyce’s masterpiece Ulysses as well as reading The Schopenhauer Cure by Irvin D. Yalom. I love his books because he’s a psychologist and adds history and philosophy to his stories. And Joyce? I’d love to marry him, but sadly he died way before I was born!

Ψ Single girl; no kids. Love being single, although I sometimes miss having someone I can share dreams, hopes, fears and love with. But then I think of how men think (they are brilliant in compartmentalizing!) and I think ‘Ah girl, just stay single!’ :D)

Ψ In love with Ireland. If I could marry Ireland, I would marry Ireland. It’s in my blood and I’ve assimilated brilliantly into Irish culture and daily life. The only thing I do not like is the drinking culture of it. I can have as good a time sober as others have being drunk. I prefer keeping my still existing brain cells instead of drowning them in alcohol.

Ψ I love my bed, and sleeping. Not because I am lazy, but because my body tells me to use my bed. Big time.

Ψ I also love photography. That is the only thing I inherited of my genetic donor. Otherwise I am glad I inherited a lot more positive things from my step-dad.

Ψ My pet peeves are loud neighbours, opinionated people who don’t know a single thing about living with MS and screaming kids in supermarkets (excruciating headaches make me very sensitive to noise)

11 questions answered…
1. Why did you start blogging?
Needed to found a way to tell my story after people kept telling me to write about life in Ireland as a non-national (originally from Belgium) and about living with MS. It turned out to be a life saver as slowly I was coming to terms with my illness.

2. If you could eat lunch anywhere in the world, where and what would you eat?
Where? Oh goodie… New Zealand. Uluru in Oz. The pyramids in Egypt. The White House. On a deserted beach in the west of Ireland. It’s tough answering this question… I blame my interest in everything historical and love for nature. What I’d eat? Sure, a sandwhich with salmon, lettuce, cucumber and sun-dried tomato is good enough for me!

3. Whom, what, where does your blogging inspiration come from?
I will use Marcus and Ila’s reply to this because it once again mirrors my feelings exactly: “I decided to create this blog after count-less times of “googling” something in correlation with Multiple Sclerosis and coming up with nothing to answer my question. I write to answer those questions for others. Also, I write to create awareness about Multiple Sclerosis because it is tiring having to tell everyone WHAT it actually is and what it can do to you. It would be nice if there were enough awareness about the disease for people to know what it was, at least…”

4. How do you handle a stressful day?
Reading. Sleeping. Taking a couple of Kalms tablets.

5. What do you hope that your children remember about you?
I have no children but that means I have more love to give to my niece and nephew. Their dad – my brother – sadly passed away when he was 36 and no child should ever end up losing a parent. Therefore I try to be an example to my niece and nephew. I would want them to remember me as a silly auntie, one that loves them with all her heart and I want them to remember that dreams do come true if only you work hard enough on achieving them, just like I made my dream of living in Ireland came true.

6. What is your favorite recipe?
Wholemeal pasta or tagliatelle with salmon. My mum’s cooking. My own cake.

7. What is your favorite quote?
“We have always found the Irish a bit odd. They refuse to be English.” (Winston Churchill)
“This is one race of people for whom psychoanalysis is of no use whatsoever.” (Sigmund Freud when speaking about the Irish)

8. What projects are you working on right now?
My blog. Nursing my right foot that went over itself yesterday, resulting in me hopping around on one leg. Staying happy and positive. Reading Joyce’s Ulysses.

9. What is the best thing about you?
Jeez, I’d have to ask other people about this because I don’t want to sound smug or arrogant. If I have to name one thing, it would be my positivity. March on despite a war that is raging inside my body.

10. Will you follow the bloggers that you nominate?
Absolutely! Already doing so!

11. What makes you giggle?
Too many things to mention. Just regard me as a tiny leprechaun always looking for mischief! I giggle constantly!
