There aren’t many things in my life that have outnumbered my years in Ireland as I celebrate my 11th anniversary of living in Ireland today. Once again I had to pinch my arm, making sure that I woke up in Clonsilla, Ireland instead of Belgium. Eleven years indeed. Dreams do come true if you want it badly, if you work at it and if you don’t lose focus. Eleven years. Eleven. Eleven. Yes, Billie, eleven!
Love for family and friends obviously outnumbered all the years living in Ireland. Likewise for pets come and gone, as well as my addiction to books, libraries, history and all things Irish.
The mind is a very powerful tool. Despite some very entertaining years and others filled with one sad event after another in the space of three years, Ireland continues to be a dream. It remains a dream filled with places I haven’t seen yet, or studies I still want to finish. My mind keeps on fighting for those things, even while living in Ireland, I want to do more and more in Ireland..
I cherish everyday memories. Streets and places I know and walk in shown on Dublin Zoo, on Love/Hate or any other depiction of Dublin on television; the sound of people pushing the bell on the bus over and over again just for fun; the singing in pubs before MS met my memory; the long nights that turned into days and into love; the trivial yet memorable moments that seem ingrained on my eyes and mind.
Halloween will therefore always be a very happy day for me, happy like kids going from door to door to trick or treat.
I realise my life isn’t perfect, but I’m making the most of what I have or can be. That’s what life is all about… the small things that mean the world, the treats of life I want to keep on sharing.
Daily Prompt: Trick or Treat on October 31, 2013: If bloggers had their own Halloween and could go from blog to blog collecting “treats,” what would your blog hand out? Photographers, artists, poets: show us TREAT.
